This year’s CrimeCon UK at 133 Houndsditch was, without a doubt, the best yet. The entire event being held on one floor created an entirely different dynamic than in past years. It allowed for more interaction and made Content Creators Row the hub of activity in between sessions. It was a blast to see so many attendees gathered around, asking questions, snapping photos, and engaging with their favorite creators. What made this year extra special for me was having my 20-year-old daughter, Josie, by my side, experiencing CrimeCon UK for the first time.
One of the best parts of CrimeCon is reconnecting with familiar faces. I was thrilled to catch up with Cherry from Crimepedia. We’ve been friends for a while now, and it’s always a pleasure to spend time with her. On the other side of my table was Bob Motta from Defense Diaries. Bob’s a fascinating guy—he’s not just a lawyer, but the son of John Wayne Gacey’s defense attorney. Hearing him talk about the audio recordings his father had with Gacey is incredible, and I’m excited to see where his work takes him.

I also got to reconnect with Kasey and Lee from The Cult Vault. Kasey is one of the most outgoing, welcoming people at CrimeCon. She’s always such a joy to be around, and her enthusiasm for the event is contagious. Then, there were John and Sally from True Crime Investigators UK. Both are former detectives, and Sally is also a lawyer. John just hit retirement age, and he was excited about finally being able to ride the bus for free anytime—a milestone he seemed genuinely delighted about!
CrimeCon is also the perfect place to make new friends, and this year I met some fantastic people. One standout connection was Joseph Scott Morgan, a forensic expert and professor of forensics at Jacksonville State University. Joseph and I have both been covering the Ellen Greenberg case separately for a while, but after meeting in person, we’ve decided to work together on a session for next year’s CrimeCon UK, specifically about Ellen’s case. Not only was Joseph a great connection, but his wife, Kim, was an absolute delight. After the show, we had drinks together, and she was charming, fun, and just an overall wonderful person to hang out with.

I also had the pleasure of meeting Megan and Neil from Mortal Musings Podcast. They’re life partners, and their podcast has a hilarious format: Megan tells true crime stories, while Neil—who’s new to the genre—reacts. Their chemistry is fantastic, and they brought a lot of humor to the event. I’m looking forward to seeing where their podcast goes.
Having my daughter Josie with me was a true highlight. She’s an avid reader and a lover of true crime, so this event was right up her alley. She bought a couple of books and had them signed by the authors, which was a special moment for her. While I was off chatting with other creators, Josie held down the fort at our booth and did an amazing job representing me. It was great to see her engage with the community, and she loved every minute of it. Having her with me made this CrimeCon experience feel even more special.
Outside of the event, Josie and I took the opportunity to do some classic “daddy-daughter” sightseeing around London. We visited St. Paul’s Cathedral, crossed the Millennium Bridge, and walked along the wharf. We also saw Westminster, Big Ben, and the London Eye—hitting all the iconic spots. One of the highlights for both of us was visiting the British Museum. Josie was particularly drawn to the ancient Greek artifacts, while I was fascinated by the Egyptian exhibits. Seeing the Rosetta Stone in person was an unforgettable experience.

As if our time in London wasn’t special enough, after CrimeCon ended, we took a day trip to Paris. We hopped on the train at St. Pancras Station and arrived in Paris at Gare du Nord, ready for another adventure. We visited Notre Dame, wandered through the Louvre, and of course, made sure to take in the Eiffel Tower. One of the highlights for me was revisiting a special Italian restaurant near the Eiffel Tower that I first discovered eight years ago with my son. It was incredible to share that same experience with Josie, and the pizza was just as amazing as I remembered!
CrimeCon UK 2024 was an unforgettable experience. From reuniting with old friends and making new ones, to sharing it all with Josie, this year’s event was truly special. I’m already looking forward to next year, especially with the opportunity to work on a session with Joseph Scott Morgan. Until then, I’ll be reflecting on all the wonderful memories from this weekend and, of course, continuing my work in true crime.
