Crystal Rasch, a 37-year-old woman from Clyman, Wisconsin, has been missing since June 11. Her sudden disappearance and the chilling details that followed have gripped her family and the local community with concern and fear. As the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office reclassified her case from a missing person investigation to a death investigation, the mystery surrounding her fate has deepened, hinting at a sinister turn of events.
Crystal Rasch was last seen on June 11. Shortly after, her friends and family started receiving Facebook messages purportedly from her. However, these messages were suspiciously out of character, raising red flags among her loved ones. Crystal’s estranged relationship with her husband, Zachariah Rasch, added another layer of complexity to the situation. Their marriage had been tumultuous, with Crystal filing for divorce in September 2023, citing threats of abuse.

For almost two weeks, Crystal’s whereabouts remained unknown, prompting her stepmother to report her missing on June 23. This marked the official start of the investigation, with family members desperate for answers and the community rallying to find her.
“The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting a search for a missing person in the Clyman area,” said the Sheriff’s office in an online statement. “We are currently not releasing details of this investigation, as, at this time we need this to be restricted to law enforcement sanctioned searches. We ARE NOT currently asking for volunteers to assist with the search, and we are asking, in fact, that people avoid the area.”
“Law enforcement presence will be increased in the Clyman area and potentially other areas of the county. The person we are searching for is identified as Crystal Rasch, age 37 of rural Clyman,” they added.
As investigators delved deeper into Crystal’s disappearance, a troubling financial trail began to emerge. Unauthorized transactions on Crystal’s financial accounts pointed directly to her estranged husband, Zachariah. These transactions, totaling over $6,500, included the purchase of cleaning supplies such as drain cleaner, carpet cleaner, and chemical-resistant gloves—items that seemed ominously out of place—and five ATM withdrawals.
Surveillance footage from various stores captured Zachariah making these purchases alone, providing crucial evidence that linked him to the unauthorized use of Crystal’s accounts. The financial trail not only highlighted Zachariah’s suspicious activities but also suggested a possible motive behind Crystal’s disappearance.
As the investigation progressed, more evidence surfaced, painting a grim picture of the events following Crystal’s disappearance. Cell phone pings from Crystal’s two phones revealed critical information about her last known locations. One phone last pinged on June 8 near Juneau, Wisconsin, while the other pinged on June 17 near Adams, Wisconsin, an area where Zachariah’s family owned property.
Adding to the mounting evidence, investigators discovered Crystal’s 2023 Mitsubishi Eclipse on land owned by Zachariah’s family in Adams County. The vehicle, which held “significant evidentiary value,” was sent to the Wisconsin State Crime Lab in Madison for forensic analysis. These discoveries intensified the investigation, suggesting that Crystal’s fate might be far worse than initially feared.

The culmination of the financial evidence and surveillance footage led to the arrest of Zachariah Rasch. Charged with seven counts of identity theft for using Crystal’s financial accounts without her consent, Zachariah faces an uphill legal battle. Under interrogation, he initially making any purchases with her accounts. After being shown the evidence, police say he admitted to making the unauthorized purchases.
During Zachariah’s initial court appearance on June 28, the judge found probable cause to charge him, setting his bail at $250,000.
“The sheriff’s office continues to investigate the disappearance of Crystal Rasch and while it remains a missing person investigation, given the information that has been discovered and made public today, we also treat this as a case in which a serious felony has likely been committed,” said the Dodge County Seriff’s Office in a Facebook statement.
Increasing their efforts, authorities made a public appeal for information, urging anyone with knowledge of Crystal’s whereabouts to come forward.
The community’s involvement and the information hotline set up by the Sheriff’s Office played a crucial role in gathering leads and supporting the ongoing investigation.
“We certainly have far more knowledge regarding her disappearance than what we are able to release. However, as in any criminal case, we are not able to release additional information as the integrity of the investigation, and potential criminal prosecution that may follow as a result of the case, must be maintained,” the Sheriff’s Office stated.
On July 3, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office announced that the case of Crystal Rasch was no longer just a missing person investigation—it had been reclassified as a death investigation.
“The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office has had continuous investigation into the disappearance of Crystal Rasch, and through the investigation it has been determined that this case is no longer a missing person investigation, but it has transitioned to a death investigation. No details regarding the death investigation will be released to maintain the integrity of the investigation as this is still a very active investigation.”
A search of the Dodge County Circuit Court records indicates Zachariah Rasch is still being held on a $250,000 cash bail for the financial crimes charges. He has not been charged in the death of his estranged wife.
