Charles Michael Calvert, accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend, lawyer Marshall Linsky, claims he acted in self-defense during a domestic dispute. However, inconsistencies in his story and evidence suggesting the scene was staged have raised serious doubts about his account.

In a shocking case that has sent ripples through Indiana’s legal community, Charles Michael Calvert stands accused of murdering his girlfriend, Marshall Linsky, an esteemed lawyer and former magistrate. The incident occurred on February 3rd, 2024, with Calvert claiming he acted in self-defense during a domestic dispute.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Calvert called 911, stating that Linsky had come at him with a knife. However, investigators found the scene to be suspicious. Linsky was discovered lying face down in the kitchen, surrounded by a chaotic mess, including a broken crockpot and scattered food items. The police noted the presence of two knives near her body, which appeared to be deliberately placed, suggesting they might have been staged.

Calvert’s account of the events that led to the fatal altercation raises questions. He told authorities that the dispute began over the proper way to chop onions. He claimed that Linsky shoved a pot towards him and then attacked him with a knife, prompting him to defend himself. However, inconsistencies in his story, such as the absence of any chopped onions at the scene, have cast doubt on his version of events.

Further scrutiny arose when it was revealed that Calvert had called his father before contacting 911, a move that delayed the emergency response. Additionally, police believe Calvert showered and changed clothes before making the 911 call, as his attire was free of bloodstains when officers arrived, and they found blood-stained clothes in the house.

Linsky, who was described as a trailblazer in the legal field, was found with multiple stab wounds and severe cuts, including defensive wounds on her hands. The cuts on her neck and back indicate a violent struggle, contradicting Calvert’s claim of self-defense.

As the investigation continues, the legal community mourns the loss of a respected figure. The case now moves through the judicial system, where prosecutors will aim to prove that this was a case of murder, not self-defense.
