Authorities in Houston are asking for the public’s help to identify suspects involved in the murder of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray. Recent surveillance footage and community testimonies may provide crucial leads.

The tragic murder of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray has left the Houston community searching for answers. Jocelyn’s body was discovered on June 17, 2024, in a creek near West Rankin Road, just a day after she snuck out of her home to visit a nearby 7-Eleven. Surveillance footage from the convenience store captured her last moments alive.

Jocelyn was seen on camera talking on her phone as she entered the store. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences later determined that she had been strangled. Authorities believe she was murdered on the night of June 16th or early the next morning.

Two male persons of interest were captured in the surveillance footage around the time Jocelyn was at the 7-Eleven. The images, though grainy, show one man wearing a cap that might be a Houston Astros hat and carrying what looks like a fanny pack. The other man, shorter and possibly tattooed, remains unidentified.

Jocelyn’s 13-year-old boyfriend reported hearing her speaking with two adults on the phone shortly before her death. This information, combined with the surveillance footage, has led police to focus on these two unidentified men.

Jocelyn’s family recently moved to the area and was described by her grandmother as starting a new chapter in their lives. The discovery of Jocelyn’s body by a passerby, initially mistaken for a mannequin, has shocked the community.

Houston Police are working tirelessly to follow leads, reviewing additional surveillance footage, and requesting help from the public. They urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers or the Houston Police Department.

Mayor John Whitmire and Police Chief Troy Finner have expressed their commitment to solving this case. They emphasized the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in bringing Jocelyn’s killer to justice.

As the investigation continues, the Houston community is reminded of the importance of keeping children safe and aware of the potential dangers they may face. The hope remains that with public assistance, Jocelyn Nungaray’s killer will be found and justice will be served.
