Father and Girlfriend Arrested After Death of 12-Year-Old Girl

In Chester County, Pennsylvania, a tragic case has emerged involving the death of 12-year-old Melinda Hoagland. The girl’s father, Randall Hoagland, 52, and his girlfriend, Cindy Warren, 45, have been arrested and charged with attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, and other related charges.

Melinda was discovered in a severely emaciated state, weighing only 50 pounds, and covered in bruises with multiple broken bones. Emergency services responded to a 911 call from Randall Hoagland on May 4, 2024, reporting that his daughter was unresponsive. Despite being rushed to Paoli Hospital Trauma Center, Melinda died later that evening due to her injuries and organ failure.

Investigators found disturbing evidence, including videos showing Melinda shackled to furniture, forced to perform strenuous exercises, and being denied food for days as punishment. These videos, dating back several months, indicated systematic and severe abuse by her father and his girlfriend.

Melinda had been pulled out of public school in late November and placed in a home cyber school. This isolation seemingly allowed the abuse to continue unchecked. Cindy Warren’s deleted text messages further suggest a consciousness of guilt, adding weight to the charges against her.

The Chester County District Attorney’s Office, along with local and state law enforcement agencies, are leading the investigation. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 8, 2024, and further charges, including murder, may be considered pending the final medical reports.
